The Cave People

The brute-kin of the deep places — broad-shouldered, troglodyte ape-men who walk upright, knuckle the earth when they run, and speak in hoots and the crack of breaking branches. Once, in the Elder Ages, they were builders, raising megaliths of dressed stone; nothing of the mason survives in them now, only the old strength and a fury that does not tire.

They den in caves, gorges and boulder-fields and drive off any who stray within. For all their ruin they keep their faith: they worship Draken'r (the god the Gar call Drakenr, lord of the hunt and the Shattered Moon), and hold that the Hiss'Gar were sent to punish them. Their oldest tales honour the hero Farkan, who fell in a last, hopeless stand at Throg's Folly, refusing defeat. To your people they are a grim mirror — not of what man was, but of what he might yet become.
