Crafting
Everything you carry, you must make. Open the crafting menu to turn raw materials into tools, weapons, clothing, remedies and the pieces of your home. Each recipe lists the materials it needs and the time it takes; ingredients you are short of are marked in red.
That time is spent kneeling at the work, and a cauldron's cooking and brewing take theirs the same way. Press CRAFT (or COOK, or BREW) again while you work and the next piece joins a queue, listed at the left of the screen and made one after another. What a queued piece needs is set aside (greyed out in your pack) but only used up once that piece is finished: X gives up the queue, and a blow, a fall or a shove breaks it off, with nothing lost either way.
Simple things you can craft bare-handed. Finer work needs the right tool in your pack, or a station nearby — smelt ore into iron at a Furnace, brew cures and cook meals at a Cauldron, make clothing, gear and bombs at a Workbench, and forge iron blades and armour at an Anvil. Each station answers only to one who has learned its craft.
Making costs more than materials: every craft draws on your FOCUS, a set price for each thing, and the more intricate the work the steeper it is. Mending costs focus too, in proportion to how far the piece has been worn down. Tired of mind, you cannot work — sit and rest, better still by a fire, or sleep the night through.
