Dog

PREDATOR, BUT TAMEABLE: it hunts you on sight.

A heavier, harder-jawed cousin of the wolf that hunts the valley edges alone. Half again the beast a wolf is, and it fights the same way: close, fast and low. Yet it is the one predator that can be brought round. Soothing words mean nothing to it, but offer it Raw Meat (Z) and it will eat rather than bite, for a few moments; keep the meat coming and it becomes yours. A dog so won will follow you, guard your ground and die for you, and a kennel gives it somewhere to come home to. It will not carry a rider.
